Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is a form of massage therapy specifically designed for pregnant women to address the unique needs and changes that occur during pregnancy. It provides relaxation, relief from common discomforts, and support for the physical and emotional well-being of expectant mothers.

Prenatal massage therapists are trained to safely and effectively work with pregnant women, considering their changing bodies, hormonal fluctuations, and potential contraindications. They use specialized techniques and positioning to ensure the comfort and safety of the mother and baby.

Some key features and considerations of prenatal massage include:

  1. Positioning: Depending on which tri-semester the client is in, their condition and complaint, there can be different positioning  during a prenatal massage: (prone, supine or side lying).

  2. Pillows, bolsters, or specialized pregnancy massage tables with cutouts are used to provide support and ensure proper alignment.

  3. Gentle pressure: Prenatal massage typically involves lighter pressure compared to traditional massage techniques. The therapist uses gentle, soothing strokes to promote relaxation and alleviate muscle tension.

  4. Focus on specific areas: Prenatal massage focuses on addressing the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as lower back pain, hip and pelvic discomfort, swelling in the legs and ankles, and neck and shoulder tension.

  5. Safety precautions: The therapist avoids using deep pressure on certain areas, such as the abdomen and lower back, and avoids certain techniques that may stimulate specific acupressure points believed to be associated with inducing labor.
